Oh My Sensuality Shop, Northampton MA- Superhero Sex Shop

So, I’m getting ready to hit the road for The Superhero Sex Shop Tour- woohooo!! Before I moved out of Boston though, I visited the New England-based shops on the tour list so you get a little tour taste before I head out!

First up is Northampton MA’s Oh My Sensuality Shop! Opened in 2003 and helmed by the mother and daughter team of Carol and Beth, Oh My is committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment for learning and exploring – seriously there’s a sign on the door that says “No ewwwwing!” The products featured at Oh My are high quality and, in many cases, freakin’ gorgeous! The shop hosts frequent classes and events and carries a bit of something for everyone. In addition to a wide assortment of toys, books, condoms and lube (For real- massive condom and lube bar! Check out the pics!) you will find locally made impact toys and a beautiful assortment of vintage lingerie- the corsets, oh the corsets- “Oh My” indeed!

I stopped in for a visit in January (I know, I’ve been holding on to this one for a while!) and had an awesome chat with Carol -the mother of the mother/daughter team. The atmosphere of the shop is warm, inviting and friendly and I will say the same about Carol! Carol says “Our mission is to provide a safe, sexy, educational space” Mission accomplished!

Carol was kind enough to take some time to answer my  Seven Superhero Sex Shop Questions so here’s a bit more about Oh My Sensuality Shop- A Superhero Sex Shop:

What makes Oh My unique?

First we are a mom and daughter shop. Beth is soon to be 45 and  Carol is 65 this offers customers of different age groups life experiences from varied prospectives. We also have a gentleman on our staff- again a different view and we have interns from local colleges also available. Our mission is to provide a safe, sexy, educational space where folks can explore their sensual side.

Entering a sex shop for the first time can be daunting. Any advice to first time shoppers?

Go online and look at products on sex toy sites.  Read books about sex and sex toys, bring a friend, and the first visit can be just a way to acclimate you to the environment. You can talk to a staff person who is happy to assist you in your search and can help calm your nerves.

I imagine your job to offer the opportunity to teach, open minds and change lives. Any favorite moments/great stories?

Working with people one on one to encourage them to have as much pleasure as possible is the best part of the job. we are thanked often, we have received thank you notes from customers one couple stopped in before their honeymoon and sent a post card thanking Beth for helping them pick out products that they really enjoyed.
