As time goes on I am developing definite toy preferences. When it comes to dildos I have come to really like toys with handles (yeah, ergonomics!) and I know I get really excited when they have a good frenulum (which is funny because I don’t love realistic looking toys, I just want the frenulum). Also, I always want everything to be pretty. So, when Good Vibrations asked me if I wanted to test the Ursa Clear Glass Dildo, well, my first thought was “what is that?” but after I saw it I thought “OMG! That is all the things I like!” 

So, what’s the deal with this toy? At first glance it’s a semi-realistic, curved borosilicate glass dildo with a handle. But actually the handle side is also a useable dildo! It comes with a thick padded storage pouch. 

How does it work? Rather than explain dildos to you, because they are pretty straightforward, I’ll give you the specs on the Ursa:

Total Length: 11″ (28cm) Insertable Length: 6 1/2″ (16.5cm) Diameter at Widest Point: 1 3/4″ (4.5cm) 

And talk a little about glass toys in general: Glass is a non-porous body safe material. Borosilicate glass is extremely strong (think about casserole dishes, it’s that type of glass) and will not shatter, though it may chip if dropped on a hard surface so look your toy over carefully and do not use it if it is chipped or cracked.

How does it feel? Well, it’s glass (and high-quality, beautifully made glass at that) so it feels smooth. The Ursa has a curve to the long side with a pronounced semi-realistic head and (my favorite part) a stylized frenulum-type indentation.

No, seriously, how does it feel?  First off, I was super-excited to have a toy that there was no-doubt I could use my favorite silicone lube (überlube!) with. Secondly, I have a horrible habit of jumping the gun on stuff (I tend to forget to read instructions, that kind of thing). In the case of the Ursa, I went to insert it an immediately wished I had taken a moment to warm it up because even at room temperature, it’s a little chilly. My first experiment with the Ursa was a little underwhelming, I was not fully prepared for its size. I guess had expected to be thrusting a lot and just… wasn’t, which left me a bit let down.

But then….

Then there was my second try at the Ursa. This time I took a moment to warm it up (pro tip: with any heat-retaining toy, you can hold it behind your knee for a minute and it will get nice and warm) and stopped trying to decide how the toy was going to work. I lubed up, inserted the Ursa and didn’t try to push it, thrust it or move it at all for a second. This was when I discovered the wonder of the Ursa. It, without me doing much of anything, easier that almost anything else I’ve ever used, found my g-spot. What’s more, because of the handle, I was able to get the more response out of it quicker than I ever had before. Urse took me from 0 to “oh holy hell!” in the space of maybe 3 minutes, it was kind of crazy.

I’ve been playing with g-spot and squirting and all of that (Just for fun, however you orgasm—or don’t— is perfect. There’s no “right” way to do sex!) and, Ursa has been added to my g-spot exploration arsenal.*

Working for me:

• Yay glass! You can’t beat a non-porous body safe material, especially a pretty one
• Cleaning is a breeze. Soap and water will do it but if you’re feeling intense it’s totally boilable or top rack dishwasher safe— just be careful removing it because, as we’ve discussed, glass retains heat.
• I love the shape, everything about this toy is very thoughtfully designed.
• I love toys with handles! They are great for using on other people and super-comfortable to use on yourself. Also, from an accessibility standpoint handles make dildos so much easier to use for people of size (or anyone who needs a little extra length) or people for who gripping is difficult.
• Two-in-one! I love that the handle is a useable toy too!

Not so much:

• Okay, I did try the other side (the handle) and it was kind of “meh”. But I loved the dildo side so much, the odds of me getting as excited by the other side were pretty slim.
• Cosmetic quibble: I keep thinking that as a clear piece the Ursa looks a bit…plain? I’d love this in a color. Maybe red? 😉
