So, last night I watched the Teen Mom porn and there was a lot of awful but I don’t want to spend a ton of time talking about this so you should go check out this #FarrahDeen or this awesome post to get caught up. That said, there is something I want to touch on.
Farrah Abraham (Teen Mom) is has insisted several times that this video is not porn. She has even explained what she thinks “porn” is:
“A porn tape is when you are a porn star and you wanna be naked and wanna wear crazy other stuff And that’s what’s really hard for me to even deal with.I’m not ok with that and that’s not what this is.”
Can you hurt yourself rolling your eyes? I think I might have done that
Now, I’m not going to take on the absurdity of her not-porn claim – I like what this Jezebel piece did with that.
I’ll just say that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s a duck… in this case a duck who is being fucked in the ass by one of the world’s biggest porn stars- a duck in a porn!
Frankly, I just wanted to include the duck line, I’ll now get to my point. What is painfully obvious to me is that Teen Mom wanted the Kim Kardashian/Paris Hilton effect. Sex tape is leaked “Oh noes!! How could this happen?! But I guess I may as well sell it…” Cue lots of money and increase fame without actually participating in the porn industry. Farrah’s trying to work that same game just with a better looking tape…because it was made by professionals and, according to James Deen-who I trust for these things- she was already paid for before she “sold” it. She wants porn quality footage with leaked sex tape commitment.
Here’s where I get riled up about this: If you want to make porn, make porn! Own it. Don’t make porn and then lie about it. It’s futile, it’s disingenuous and it’s really insulting. To participate in an industry and then immediately try as hard as possible to distance yourself from it and announce what you’re “not ok with” about it is just unconscionable. By going on and on about what this video allegedly is and why she allegedly hired people to make it for her she is, as loudly as possible saying “yes, I had lots of sex on camera but I’m not one of THOSE PEOPLE!!”. It’s an obnoxious slap in the face to the porn industry and also, a dumb move. Had she owned this and said “yes, I’m making a porn video, here’s why I want to do that” she could have had some support from the sex positive community but she has put so much effort into making it clear that she is absolutely not part of that world (and she was mean to James Deen, you don’t do that… to anyone really but certainly not James Deen) that, from what I’ve seen, folks just want her to go away now.
In the end, I just keep thinking of the of members of the porn industry I’ve encountered in one way or another in my time as the Bedhead… I think of Jessica Drake, Dylan Ryan, Courtney Trouble, Tristan Taormino, Mia Gimp, Camille Crimson, Sinnamon Love, Clark Matthews… and so on and I think that if Farrah Abraham wanted to make the point that she’s not like those people, well mission accomplished.
Don’t worry your pretty little head Farrah, I don’t think you have to worry about anyone lumping you together all of those awesome, badass, intelligent, creative, gorgeous, amazing members of the porn community. You don’t seem to have much in common.
